And just like that...as of 11:25 AM this morning, the Sanction number has been reinstated. Of course, there still needs to be a vote (in the coming weeks) because the idea of doing something as completely insanely crazy (e.g. progressive) as changing the scoring for a championship meet would mean that we would actually have to meet more than once a year as an LMSC board....sigh.

After all of that magnanimous bullshit...jeez...Folks, bottom line is that you DON'T know what goes on at the leadership level of your LMSC. Yes, the same one you pay to be a part of. I specifically changed my club over to a USMS club just so I could have a vote to ensure that integrity was maintained for the NE LMSC. Even having that vote, apparently, does not guarantee better leadership. We need more NEMSC swimmers to say "hey...those people at the top...what DO they do for me?".

Yes, volunteers have responsibilities...that's why they call it a "volunteer" and not a "lazy fat ass". I wish we had more volunteers...I really do. But I dig the fact that people are just busy. That's life. If you are busy, don't be a volunteer. Be something else. Let the volunteers do the work and do it for the betterment of the swimming world. We will appreciate them, and you, that much more.

Im going to go burn my soapbox now and get back to coaching and loving swimming. When the vote comes, I will let you all know how it goes. I expect it to be pretty bi-partisan.

[...] Here’s a link to West Side Swim’s web site which is run by their coach, Nate Mcbride. It’s amazing what Nate’s done for NEM, and all of us. I have a link to his site from the ANA home page, I subscribe to his RSS feed, I read all he has to say about swimming and I even took his picture for this post. Sorry. It disturbs me greatly to read what he writes concerning OUR LCM Championships at Middlebury, VT. [...]

Well now...seems that once higher powers intervene, things like this always seems to sort themselves out. One of the most awesome people in USMS (in my opinion) has weighed in and our chair has gone 180. So we will be having a vote after all in the coming weeks. Stand by and I will let you all know how the vote turned out and who voted which way.

The humor continues but I will spare you all. The chair has decided that an ad-hoc meeting to debate this issue is not possible (no explanation as to why) and that we all must wait until the annual LMSC meeting this summer to debate it, which, at that time, will be too late obviously. All hail the mighty chair.

My recommendation...show up at the LMSC meeting this summer ( I will post the date here )...make your voice heard. Let it be known that one individual who is willing to avoid accountability should not be leading the LMSC. I know that's where my vote will stand.

The folly continues...we finally got a reply this morning...you can follow the email thread here. The chair decides not to answer the question as to how he, based on his own words, is authorized to make the decision, instead now deflecting the decision back on the LMSC. One minute he is making decisions and the next minute he is not. That's kind of strange.

Thank you for the kind words. I am, of course, aware of the by laws and all the previously passed LMSC resolutions for the last many years, since I have attended all the LMSC meetings without exception, both as Chair and Vice Chair, for more years than I can remember. I am following the resolutions to the letter. These emails are both useless and circumnavigate them and that is why they are a waste of time, so please knock it off.

Let me clarify one point above all else: I AM NOT MAKING A DECISION AGAINST THIS PROPOSAL. What I am saying, it must follow a certain process that was voted on by the LMSC so that ALL THE PROPER PARTIES ARE INVOLVED. That will occur at the LMSC meeting this summer.

According to the NE-LMSC Bylaws, which presumably you had some hand in
either authoring or approving, the following exists:

The Chair shall be responsible for the day-to-day management of the business affairs of the LMSC; shall call meetings as deemed necessary; shall preside at all meetings; shall appoint such standing and special committees as necessary; shall appoint USMS Convention Delegates, all with the advice and consent of the Directors.

Notice the last statement there..."all with the advice and consent of the Directors."

Which part of that grants you sole authority to make bad decisions?

You need not bother Yvonne with this, I put the sanction on hold. The
LMSC chair has that authority. I will email you later today to discuss this further.

Dear Yvonne,

It has recently come to our attention that as Sanction Chair, you
distributed the email below last Friday.

1) The Muffintops would like official notification from you that our
sanction number has been withheld.

and

2) The Muffintops would like to know the basis upon which you have
chosen to withhold our sanction, with specific reference to the exact
"USMS Standards" in violation, as referred to in your email.

Thank you kindly,
Middlebury Muffintop Meet Committee

ok here is another one...and by the way...it is interesting to note that some of the emails are coming from out of state...people talking about how they love their LMSC's...damn you! ;-)

"Wow, if this weren't so sad it would be funny. I think I can actually see him gathering all his toys and going home... Oh well, like they say, if you can't beet 'em, prevent them from competing altogether."
-Sad yes. Sad mostly because a bunch of people worked their asses off to get this meet together and just like that...plug pulled.

The emails are coming in fast and furious now...none from the one we want one from but several others...here are a few snippets, verbatim.

"YOUR readers? get off your high horse asshole."
-ok but what I am supposed to call them? (btw my favorite email so far...im almost tempted to print your name)

"Remind me not to piss you off Nate. I can't believe that he could do that. Is that true? Why can't the board have a vote?
-I wouldn't write it if it wasn't and we can't have a vote because he won't call one

"I get your point but why the swearing? Is it necessary to convey your point which comes across clear enoug[h] without it?"
-Yes. I believe swearing, when used in a proper literary context, is great for conveying a message of total fucking frustration. Oops.

"Holy crap remind me not to piss you off Nate. Did you contact USMS to let them know what's happening?
-General reminder to everyone since it keeps coming up...also, yes, I did reach out to USMS but have not heard back.

Keep the emails coming folks...negative or positive I don't care. So long as you read the story and understand what is happening.

“YOUR readers? get off your high horse asshole.”
-ok but what I am supposed to call them? (btw my favorite email so far…im almost tempted to print your name)

“Remind me not to piss you off Nate. I can’t believe that he could do that. Is that true? Why can’t the board have a vote?
-I wouldn’t write it if it wasn’t and we can’t have a vote because he won’t call one

“I get your point but why the swearing? Is it necessary to convey your point which comes across clear enoug[h] without it?”
-Yes. I believe swearing, when used in a proper literary context, is great for conveying a message of total fucking frustration. Oops.

“Holy crap remind me not to piss you off Nate. Did you contact USMS to let them know what’s happening?
-General reminder to everyone since it keeps coming up…also, yes, I did reach out to USMS but have not heard back.

Keep the emails coming folks…negative or positive I don’t care. So long as you read the story and understand what is happening.
