In other news…and because the AP obviously has nothing else to report on these days…a coach in Texas was recently fired for letting his team “run up” the score on another team during a girl’s high school basketball game. Forget the fact that the coach who won contacted the losing coach prior to the game to call it off and the losing coach refused…forget the fact that the losing team hadn’t won a single game in 4 years…forget the fact that the losing team only had FOUR players…forget the fact that the winning team was a top team in the state….forget the fact that the winning coach rotated his whole bench…and forget the fact that 25 points a quarter is nothing compared to what the coach COULD have done had he wanted to run up the score…what is left is a game (that should have never happened in the first place, being the thing that will, for a long time, define the losing school) where kids are being taught to win…but only by enough. This whole thing is stupid. Or was until the AP picked it up and that made it…twice as stupid. You lost, move on…the whole country will have forgotten your crappy story in a week.
